Golden Thread Farm and Vermont Saffron

The name “Golden Thread Farm” was inspired by the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, which took place on the island of Crete. In this story, after defeating the Minotaur, Theseus is able to escape the Minotaur’s labyrinth by following the golden thread he had previously unwound.

Vermont-grown saffron from Golden Thread Farm

Golden Thread Farm is a small farm located in Stowe, Vermont. We specialize in the cultivation of Crocus Sativus.  Crocus Sativus is a beautiful light purple flower, the stigma of which is the spice Saffron. This spice, the most expensive in the world, is proving to be a very suitable crop for growing in Vermont.

At Golden Thread Farm we cultivate Saffron that is fresh, pure and organically grown. As a result we are able to offer a premium quality product for sale.

All of the labor to produce our Saffron is performed by hand.  We harvest the flowers one-by-one in late October and early November.  From each flower, we separate the stigmas, which are then dried, cured and packaged.

Our first harvest in 2018 was a huge success.  In 2019, we quadrupled our production, and we are now able to offer this amazing spice for sale.

Saffron is a fantastically unique spice for many dishes, makes a wonderful tea, and is highly touted for its numerous health benefits.
